Board accepts four police resignations; officers joining Elkhart PD

The Board of Public Works and Safety on July 24 accepted resignations from four Goshen Police Department officers who have taken full-time positions with the Elkhart City Police Department.
Chief Miller presented the resignations and identified the officers and effective dates: Officer Seth Bays (last day 07/24/2025, two years of service), Officer Paige Hershberger (last day July 23, 2025, nearly four years of service), Sergeant Caleb Rucker (last day 07/26/2025, nearly four years of service) and Officer Desmond Wilkins Maxwell (resignation effective 07/17/2025, nine months of service).
A board member moved to approve the listed resignations; the motion carried unanimously.
Chief Miller thanked each departing officer for their service and wished them well at Elkhart PD. No further actions or conditions were attached to the acceptance of resignations.
