La Casa gets temporary sidewalk closure for top-floor painting under safety conditions

The Board of Public Works and Safety on July 24 approved a temporary closure of the sidewalk in front of the Chutes building to allow painting at the top of the four-story building, with the applicant required to follow engineering department safety guidelines.
A La Casa representative (identified in the meeting as Bridal Hunsberger, vice president of real estate development) requested closure for a limited number of hours next week and affirmed the contractor would clear the area by 2 p.m. on Friday for First Friday activities. Engineering staff said the work must meet MUTCD guidelines for advanced notice and hard barriers at the work limits; the motion was amended to include that requirement.
The motion passed unanimously; staff will confirm barricade, signage and pedestrian detour plans consistent with engineering guidance before field work begins.
