The Woodlands Township Board of Directors approved a second amendment July 17 to its interlocal agreement with Montgomery County that governs streetscape maintenance and improvements in county road rights‑of‑way.
Chief Operating Officer Chris Nunes presented the amendment and said the changes are modest: clarifying which trees are the county’s responsibility when limbs or trees fall from township property into county right‑of‑way; changing language on wildflower plantings from “shall” to “may” to allow future budget discretion; clarifying crosswalk responsibilities; and updating the term to a two‑year period with automatic renewal. Nunes said Montgomery County approved the same amendment earlier that week.
Director questions focused on operational details such as the repainting schedule for mid‑block crosswalks (Nunes said the township tries to cycle mid‑block crossings on a three‑year rotation, with some done more frequently based on condition), and whether crossing guards employed by Conroe Independent School District could be enlisted to reinforce pathway messages as part of an education strategy. Nunes said crossing guards are employed by the school district, but staff have sent letters to school officials as part of a broader outreach.
The board voted to approve the amendment by voice vote; the motion was moved by Director Heizer and seconded by Director Snyder.
