The Brighton City Council voted 8-0 Tuesday on final reading of an ordinance amending the Land Use and Development Code to update rules for accessory dwelling units (ADUs) and manufactured homes, city staff said.
Sean Wyman, the city's affordable housing coordinator, told council the ordinance was pulled from the consent agenda so two corrections could be made before final approval. "This item was pulled from consent agenda so that the, the ordinance could have, have 2 corrections made to it," Wyman said. The two changes: the ordinance now explicitly replaces the existing definition of "housing, affordable" with a clarified "affordable housing" definition, and a findings section was added to document how the amendments meet LUDC criteria.
Wyman said the amendments had previously been considered and approved at first reading and were reviewed by the Planning Commission under the LUDC's criteria. "There were no changes to the definitions or to the amendment criteria that you reviewed, and that was voted on at first reading," Wyman said.
Mayor Pro Tem Peter Padilla moved the ordinance; Councilmember Fiddler seconded. With no additional council discussion, the ordinance passed on final reading by an 8-0 vote.
The measure updates LUDC language for ADUs and manufactured homes and records the city's findings that the changes meet the code's amendment criteria.
