Matt Lund, director of business administration, told the board staff will place a resolution on the Monday agenda to recognize Aug. 7 as Purple Heart Day in Pueblo West and to adopt commitments such as flying a Purple Heart flag on that date.
Lund said Community Relations Manager Brandy Blankenship was contacted by a resident asking what the district does to recognize Purple Heart veterans; staff research showed the board adopted a 2019 resolution proclaiming Pueblo West a Purple Heart community, but that earlier resolution used a February date rather than the nationally recognized August date. Lund said the proposed resolution would correct the recognition date and suggest the district fly the Purple Heart flag on Aug. 7 and encourage businesses and residents to do likewise.
Board members asked whether the request included policy suggestions; Lund said the initial request was simply an inquiry and that staff’s proposal is to set the nationally recognized Aug. 7 date and propose flag‑flying as an observance. Staff will place the resolution on Monday’s agenda for possible action.
