Chillicothe City Council adopts 2026 tax budget resolution, declares emergency

The Chillicothe City Council adopted a resolution adopting the tax budget for the calendar year beginning Jan. 1, 2026, submitting it to the county auditor and declaring an emergency during a special meeting on June 13, 2025, at 26 South Paint Street.

The move came after the council amended the meeting agenda to correct the resolution's reading designation. Councilmember Payne moved to amend the agenda to list the item as a third reading; Councilmember Bennett seconded the motion. The clerk called the roll and the motion to amend passed with unanimous recorded support from Councilmembers Bennett, Payne, Barnes, McKeever, DeMint, Dunn and Creed. Following the amendment, the clerk read the resolution and the council recorded a unanimous vote adopting the tax-budget resolution.
