Staff announces public meeting on Antelope Sewer and Water Project, says state funding may be available

Tom (planning staff) told the City of Red Bluff Planning Commission on July 22 that a public meeting on the Antelope Sewer and Water Project will be held Wednesday, July 30, from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Tehama County Board of Supervisors chambers. The project, he said, is a coordinated effort with Tehama County and the state to provide water and sewer service to roughly 1,200 homes on the east side of the river along Antelope Boulevard.

Tom said the project is being advanced in stages: initial outreach and design, followed by later design and construction phases, and that the state has indicated it may have funding to support the work. He told commissioners the effort responds in part to high nitrates in well water in the area and the lack of existing city water and sewer services there. “The ultimate goal if that project comes to, fruition would be water and sewer connections for about 1,200 homes on the east side of, the river along Antelope Boulevard,” Tom said.

Tom described the outreach step as an early phase: mailers went to affected residents in the past one to two weeks and the public meeting is intended for initial community input. He emphasized that, even with the current planning and potential state funding, construction is probably many years away and further design work and approvals would be required before work would begin.

The update included the meeting date and location, and Tom said he would attend to represent the city and answer questions. The announcement did not establish any new city policy or funding commitment; it was an informational staff update and the commission did not take formal action on the project during the meeting.
