Chehalis — During public comment on July 28 a resident who identified himself as Derek described decades-long legal and financial problems he attributes to a 1995 child-support case and subsequent enforcement actions in Lewis County and other jurisdictions.
Derek told the council that a child-support increase in the early 2000s “devastated my life,” saying it led to job loss, loss of housing and years of financial difficulty. He said he later had the case quashed after sending a letter and that he believes court and enforcement actions—including garnishments, license suspensions and other measures—contributed to long-term harms. He also alleged he was the target of harassment and digital intrusions; he characterized some actors as “intel agencies” and said he sought help from federal and state elected officials.
Derek provided copies of paperwork to the council and said he wanted the council to know how the county’s enforcement had affected his life. The council did not take formal action on the remarks; the public-comment period was followed by agenda business.
