The County Operations Committee on July 29 received routine workforce, vacancy and quarterly liability/workers'compensation reports and directed staff to consult committee members about possible improvements to the dashboards.
Angela, who presented the workforce and vacancy dashboards, said the top third of the workforce report summarizes applicants and new hires, the middle third shows workforce demographics and the bottom third lists separations. She described the vacancy report as a snapshot based on when it is run and walked members through the green-column comparison to last month's vacancy totals.
Member Daley asked why one full-time equivalent (FTE) had moved from County Highway to County Administration. Angela explained the shift reflected recent hires and budget adjustments: funds previously reserved for an unfilled highway position were moved to cover an approved FTE in County Administration so the county did not increase its overall FTE count. The committee chair said he would reach out to members individually in the next several days to gather suggestions for improving both the workforce and vacancy reports, including possible changes to content and reporting intervals.
On the quarterly liability and workers'comp report, Angela reported three liability claims filed in 2025 with two still open, and 30 workers' compensation claims in 2025 with nine still open. She explained that claims are tracked by claim year and that older years may remain open while litigation or third-party-administrator processes continue.
Committee members generally described the reports as valuable for transparency and risk management; the chair and staff agreed to solicit specific member input on report design and present proposed changes to the committee.
