Council includes unvoted committee appointments and housing grant ordinance on next meeting to meet Aug. 16 federal deadline

Council President Nelson said that because her excused absence contributed to a lack of quorum at last week’s Housing and Human Services committee, several board and commission appointments that did not receive committee votes are being added to the next full council meeting agenda for final consideration.
Nelson told colleagues the committee convened as a community meeting, that appointees were recognized, and that one piece of legislation related to federal grant funds for housing and community development was discussed but not voted on. To preserve the schedule for final council action and to meet a federal deadline, the appointments and that piece of legislation are included on the full council agenda for the following day.
Nelson said the federal grant-related legislation requires action before the federal deadline of Aug. 16. She said that all boards and commission appointments, including those to the renters commission, will be voted on at the next full council meeting.
No formal committee votes were recorded during the briefing; the briefing reported the operational decision to include the items on the full council agenda to avoid timeline disruption.
The council also adopted the minutes of the July 21, 2025 briefing without objection during this meeting; Nelson opened the briefing by calling roll and noting nine members present.
The ordinance number referenced elsewhere in the briefing for housing funding is Council Bill 121034 (related to funding for housing and community development programs), which staff said will be on the upcoming agenda.
