Committee forwards Dallas Davis to Parking Authority amid discussion of downtown demand

The Board of Alders appointments committee advanced Dallas Davis to the city’s parking authority during Tuesday’s appointments hearing.

Davis, who lives downtown, said he wants to be part of solutions for parking challenges as the city’s population and housing increase. He proposed higher weekend rates to boost revenue, using underused land near the train station for overnight parking with a shuttle to downtown, and exploring resident parking stickers and fee structures that preserve local access.

Committee members said Davis’s communication and negotiation skills would be useful as New Haven considers expanding housing and managing parking demand. The committee moved and seconded the nomination; the motion carried by voice vote. The full Board will consider Davis’s confirmation at a future meeting.
