Commissioners approve 103‑day extension to community building contract while ADA ramp and AV changes are priced

Aransas County commissioners on July 28 approved change order No. 14 to extend the contract time for the Community Building / plaza / parking lot project by 103 days, moving the completion deadline to Aug. 11, 2025.
County staff said two additional change orders will be required: one to add an ADA ramp crossing the street from the community parking lot (which was not included in the original design) and another to relocate or enlarge audiovisual (AV) equipment boxes in the building walls because the floor-mounted boxes are too small for required equipment. Staff said PGAL prepared an ADA design that must be submitted to the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR) after prior submittals were returned for revision.
Staff acknowledged the need for pricing and said they expect to return to the court as soon as next week with change orders for the ramp and AV work. The construction manager and design team were identified as working to get drawings and pricing; staff said Garrett Construction (a local firm) would likely perform the work.
Commissioners voted to approve the time extension to allow the contractor to finish work and to give staff time to finalize the ADA and AV change orders. Staff cautioned that further extensions might be needed, but they are pushing the contractor to meet the August 11 date.
