Conservation commissioners identify town roads with emerald ash borer infestation; removal guidance given

Members of the Conservation Commission reported on July 21 that the emerald ash borer has been identified in trees on multiple Templeton roads and gave residents guidance on next steps.
A speaker at the commission meeting listed affected streets, saying trees with infestation were identified on "Baldwinville Road, Dudley Road, Old Winchington Road, Farnsworth Road, Maple Street, South Main Street, State Road, Wellington Road, South Road, and Depot Road." The speaker advised residents concerned about town trees to contact the Department of Public Works director, and recommended contacting the Templeton Light Company for trees near power lines.
On wetland trees, the speaker said they had contacted MassDEP and advised that a professional company should safely remove infested trees and that stumps in a buffer zone should be left in place to avoid disturbance.
