Resident urges four-way stop and lower speed signs at neighborhood school bus stop

During the public-comment period at the July 29 Mill Creek City Council meeting, resident Dan Surns asked the city to install a four-way stop with marked crosswalks at the junction of 140 Sixth Street Southeast and 30 Eighth Drive Southeast and to add 24 mph speed signs on the nearby bridge.

Surns said both locations are near community residences and that the intersection in question serves a school bus stop. He told the council that drivers regularly use 140 Sixth Street Southeast as a cut-through to avoid a traffic signal on 30 Fifth Avenue Southeast and Seattle Road, and that some vehicles travel at speeds he described as well above posted limits. "The first thing we would like is a 4 way stop with crosswalks at the junction of 140 Sixth Street Southeast and 30 Eighth Drive Southeast. This is also a community student bus stop," he said.

Council members acknowledged the comment and noted there would be other opportunities to bring the concern to city staff and to traffic engineering for study and potential action.

No motion or council action was recorded at the meeting; the item was a public comment request for staff evaluation.
