Superintendent Darren Knowles told the board the district is shifting family communications to ParentSquare, an app the district described as more efficient than the Remind platform the district has used previously. Knowles said the Remind company was sold and that ParentSquare will allow the district to provide daily summaries of notices while still delivering immediate emergency alerts when needed.
Knowles asked staff and trustees to encourage parents to download the app; he said the district will publicize the change at registration events and through staff communications. He also told the board the first day of school for students is Aug. 12 and staff and teachers will begin returning in early August.
Why this matters: Changing the primary family-communication platform affects how parents receive emergency notifications and general school messages in the new school year.
Taper: Staff will continue outreach and provide training materials for parents and school staff as registration and the start of school approach.
