Cedar City’s council unanimously approved acceptance of a Federal Aviation Administration Airport Improvement Program grant for runway preservation at the municipal airport during the July 30 meeting.
Airport staff reported they completed a bid process and awarded the runway-seal, crack-sealing and painting contract. Tyler Galecki, the airport manager, told the council the FAA offered a grant totaling $546,988 for the AIP-054 runway-preservation project; the grant covered the project scope and the FAA required a signed agreement by Aug. 8.
The project will include sealing and crack repairs on the runway surface and connectors from the parallel taxiway to the runway (connectors Alpha 1–4). Galecki said Wolpert (airport consultant/administrator) handled bidding and contract administration and the council approved acceptance of the grant and authority to execute the agreement. Councilmembers voted unanimously to accept the grant and authorize execution.
