The board voted unanimously to move forward with a formal disposition process for three district-owned properties the administration identified as surplus: the former Hillcrest school site, the old aquatic center property and a Fox Park parcel.
Administration said it had held a public hearing on July 9 (no public comment was recorded) and would now seek county commission approval as required by state statute. Staff explained legal and statutory constraints: proceeds from parcels purchased before 1998 would be retained by the district and accounted for separately; proceeds from post-1998 property sales revert to the state.
District staff said the former Hillcrest building has substantial code and remediation needs, that the old aquatic center is adjacent to other district-owned facilities and that the Fox Park parcel was small and not aligned with current district needs. The board asked staff to proceed to the commission for approval while continuing internal review on the aquatic-center parcel because of its proximity to other school facilities.
After discussion the trustees approved the motion to progress the disposition process and directed staff to bring back final sale or transfer recommendations following the commission review and statutory steps.
