Elections staff welcome voluntary Election Assistance Commission review of voting system and procedures

Cochise County elections staff told supervisors July 31 they plan to invite the federal Election Assistance Commission (EAC) to perform a voluntary review of the county’s voting system configuration and facility procedures. Mary Antinari, representing elections, said the review team will confirm that certified software is installed and running, inspect physical and data security, and assess manufactured audit procedures and other processes.

Antinari described the visit as voluntary and without cost to the county; the EAC will produce a report of its findings and will follow a timeline once the county agrees to the review. Miss Gilman referred to the review as a useful step in giving the board additional information about the accreditation status and legal compliance of the county’s voting system. The board scheduled a related work session that will include state officials and additional presentations on system accreditation and legal compliance.
