A resident addressed the commissioners Aug. 4 to raise long-running concerns about roadside mowing and to report a collapsed farm drainage box after county culvert work on 675 North.
The speaker said local roadside mowing has not been performed consistently this year, leaving high growth and debris along the right-of-way. He described heated exchanges on social media and in person as neighbors reacted to the uncut roadside, and said the county should ensure mowing is performed. The speaker also said a drop box on his property near 675 North had been concrete-capped for safety but that after county crews replaced a nearby pipe during spring rains the box had been left open, leaving a deep hazard on private property adjacent to the right-of-way.
County response and next steps: Commissioners and highway staff told the resident they would inspect the site and review the prior pipe replacement and the configuration of the drop box. Staff said the replacement pipe had been installed because of a collapse on the other side of the road and that the field-side drop box sections were off the county right-of-way; staff offered to visit the site with the resident and report back to the board.
Ending: County staff agreed to review the mowing schedule and to inspect the drainage structure with the resident; the board asked staff to report back at a future meeting.
