Centerville — City staff reported Aug. 5 that construction on the new water tank is progressing and that the city is pursuing additional grant funding for a Porter Lane trail improvement.
Tank construction update: Public-works staff said the project is underway, with earthwork subcontracted to Snow Excavation and hillside stabilization (grouting) completed to the contractor’s satisfaction after early concerns about slope stability. Staff said the project has advanced rapidly and that grouting and excavation work addressed initial issues; a contractor briefing and site inspections continue as the project moves forward.
Public access and oversight: A councilmember suggested periodic site tours for interested council members to view work progress prior to regular meetings; staff said they would arrange optional monthly tours before work sessions for those who wish to attend.
Porter Lane trails grant: Staff reported they plan to apply for a county-administered trails grant using third-quarter RDA (or third-quarter) funds to build a shared-access trail along Porter Lane from the frontage road to Main Street. The planned scope discussed included curb and gutter on both sides of Porter Lane; county work on a lower box culvert was also noted as part of the near-term project timing.
Why it matters: The tank project is a multi-year infrastructure effort intended to improve water storage and reliability; Porter Lane trail work would improve pedestrian and bicycle safety on a corridor identified for local trails.
Next steps: Staff will coordinate grant application timing with the county and continue contractor oversight on the tank project. Councilmembers were invited to schedule optional on-site tours to see work progress.
