Commission adopts ordinance annexing roughly 47 acres west of Capps Road

The City Commission on second reading adopted Ordinance 2025-15 to annex approximately 47 acres west of Capps Road into the City of Lake Wales. The ordinance was read by title as a second reading public hearing; no members of the public requested to speak on the matter before the commission voted.

During the meeting commissioners asked no further questions on the annexation, and the clerk conducted a roll-call vote. Commissioners Gillespie, Williams, Thompson, Deputy Mayor Gibson and Mayor Hillegas voted yes and the ordinance was adopted. The ordinance provides that the annexed land will be subject to city jurisdiction and references an attachment with a legal description.

There were no public comments on this item at the hearing; staff noted the item had been discussed previously and proceeded to final action.
