Kathleen Bryant, identified herself as "DNEA president," told trustees the local teachers'union will host two upcoming events and invited board members to attend.
Bryant said the new-teacher breakfast is planned for Aug. 4 at 8 a.m. at Derby North Middle School and noted the union organizes the event with district administration to welcome new staff. She also announced a DNEA-hosted school-board candidate forum on Sept. 15 at 6:30 p.m. in the boardroom and said attendees would receive a formal invitation; she said Andy McFadden will emcee the candidate event.
Why this matters: the new-teacher breakfast is a customary orientation for new staff and the candidate forum is a public opportunity to hear from people running for the school board ahead of the November election.
Bryant closed by asking trustees to consider attending; no board action was required.
