TONGANOXIE, Kan. — The Tonganoxie USD 464 school board approved Aug. 11 the purchase of a Chevrolet Traverse to support the district’s driver’s education program, with the district stating the vehicle will be paid from the driver’s education fund.
Lauren, a district staff member presenting the item, told the board the purchase “would come from the driver's education fund. It's not coming from general fund or LOB. And we we have the funds in there.” She said the district received two bids for identical vehicles and recommended the Traverse.
The board discussed how driver’s education is changing and staffing challenges for instructors. Lauren said the vehicle will be used during the school year and “in late May, June, wherever they need it for SPED.” She also said the district will keep two Ford Fusions currently in the fleet; one gray Fusion has about 140,000 miles.
Board action: The board approved the driver’s education car purchase in the amount of $40,732.50 (action item 5.4), 5-0.
Why it matters: The district said the purchase will support instruction and transportation needs within the driver’s education program and related special-education trips; funding is from a restricted driver’s-education account rather than the general fund.
What’s next: The vehicle will be added to the fleet and used by staff as scheduled for driver’s education and related student needs.
