The Liberty City Council adopted the 2025 update to the Bicycle and Pedestrian Facilities Plan on Aug. 12, voting 7–0 to approve the document.
The presenter said the council had reviewed the plan at the March 2025 retreat and again in May, that requested items were added, and that the update includes a recommendation that the city pursue Bike Friendly Community and Runner Friendly Community designations through the applicable certifying authorities. "We brought it back for consideration. Those items have been added," the presenter said.
Council members asked about upfront and ongoing costs. Staff said the primary cost is staff time to prepare applications and compile certification materials; if an application fee exists staff will report that amount back to council. "It's staff time...if there's an application fee amount, I'd be happy to find that and share it with you," a staff member said.
A councilmember said the intent is to pursue the plan as written and pursue the certifications in parallel where they overlap rather than making certification the primary object. The council then moved and seconded adoption; the motion passed by voice vote and was recorded in the transcript as seven in favor.
