Fiscal court approves MOU to affiliate county EMS personnel with Kentucky Task Force 1 for training and deployment

Scott County approved an affiliation with Kentucky Task Force 1 (KYTF1) that county emergency medical services officials say will expand training, reduce travel costs for specialized instruction and strengthen deployment options. The court voted to approve the MOU after the fire and EMS leadership outlined training and reimbursement benefits.

EMS leadership said the MOU would allow the county to host training in‑house at no travel cost and that FEMA reimbursement may cover hourly wages, equipment use and mileage for deployments. EMS Chief Chris (last name in transcript) said the county previously spent roughly $1,500 to send a single person to specialized training and estimated that training 20 personnel in‑house under the MOU could save tens of thousands of dollars.

Magistrates who had contacts at KYTF1 reported the task force is building its roster and anticipates many applicants; affiliation could provide a recruitment advantage for the county. The court approved the motion to enter the MOU, and the sheriff and EMS staff will coordinate next steps for credentialing and deployment procedures under Kentucky Emergency Management (KYEM) guidance.

No funding was required from the county general fund for the MOU itself, and county staff said current special operations equipment already meets many of the expected requirements. The MOU passed on a unanimous voice vote.
