The Board of Abatement heard from an applicant identified as Kelly on Aug. 13, who asked the board to consider relief from a delinquent property-tax balance tied to a home at 104 Booth Avenue.
Kelly said she is waiting for Social Security and is not currently able to pay the delinquent balance; she provided limited documentary evidence to the board and said she had applied for benefits. City Assessor Emily Norway told the board the current delinquent balance on the parcel is $2,619.41 and warned that a scheduled municipal posting would add another $1,460 on the coming Monday, increasing the total delinquent obligation.
Board members and staff discussed payment-plan options, the possibility of state homestead payments (if applicable) and contacting the state taxpayer-advocate and Social Security caseworkers to help speed resolution. The board closed the hearing and said it will deliberate with the other three abatement cases and issue written decisions about 30 days after the meeting.
