The board considered NEOLA policy updates labeled 34-2 in a first reading; the policy committee reported few substantive changes.

The policy committee presenter said policy 54-11 had been updated to reflect requirements tied to Act 20 and that the district had to have the policy on the books by July 1, 2025. The presenter added that, "It doesn't go into effect until, well, you know, as of right now, September 2027," signaling a later effective date but noting the committee will continue to update the policy as guidance changes.

Another noted change (read aloud during the discussion as "42.13") clarifies volunteer qualifications, saying staff who volunteer to perform duties must be able to meet the requirement or the district could face liability; the committee said principals will be reminded about that provision. The committee also emphasized that text-message exchanges about students between teachers and parents should not be the primary record-keeping method because those messages can be considered student records; staff should use district-approved communication methods and retain records in case of a student-records request.

The presenter encouraged board members to email questions to staff for clarification; no vote was taken during the first read. The presenter said there were "not a ton of major updates," and the committee will bring the policies back for further review and formal approval in a later meeting.
