Jason, the program coordinator for Brentwood Recreation who also owns Lionheart Media LLC, proposed providing action photography and marketing materials to the department in exchange for sponsor recognition rather than a monetary donation.
Jason said he would take photos at practices and games outside work hours and provide images for departmental use — for example, grant applications, posters and website content — and would not handle individual or team portrait sales that could involve sharing images of children without family consent. Commissioners noted the recreation department already includes photo permission language in its waivers.
Board members discussed potential benefits and conflict‑of‑interest concerns. Commissioners suggested clarifying terms such as whether a banner on the field or a logo on team shirts would be part of the sponsorship and whether that should be treated equivalently to paid sponsorships. They asked Jason to provide a valuation of the services (what he would charge commercially) so the commission can compare the in‑kind exchange to monetary sponsorships.
The commission did not make a formal decision at the meeting and asked staff to bring a proposed value and specific sponsorship terms to the next meeting for formal consideration and documentation. Commissioners also asked staff to confirm there are no bylaw or procurement restrictions that would bar a staff member from entering a sponsored arrangement with the department.
