The Grand Junction City Council on Aug. 6 granted a continuance of a quasi-judicial rezoning hearing for a 4.33-acre parcel at 2426 G Road, moving the matter to Sept. 17 at the applicant’s request.
Why it matters: The applicant requested a continuance so the full seven-member council could hear a potentially controversial rezoning. The council — with two members not present for the meeting — voted 6–0 to continue the hearing to the Sept. 17 date discussed at the meeting.
What happened at the meeting: Principal planner Daniella Acosta Stein noted the applicant’s representative requested the continuance. The council discussed whether re-noticing and on-site signage would be required; city staff said they would repost signs and publish the new hearing date in the newspaper. The city attorney advised that substantive testimony on the rezoning should occur only at the hearing when the item is on the agenda; comments at the Aug. 6 meeting were limited to whether to continue the hearing.
Public access: The mayor told those who traveled to the Aug. 6 meeting for the rezoning that council would provide an opportunity for a complete record at the Sept. 17 hearing and encouraged participants to return; staff confirmed the city would re-advertise and re-sign the site for the new date.
Outcome: Motion to continue the quasi-judicial hearing to Sept. 17 passed by voice vote, 6–0. No substantive testimony on the rezone was taken at the Aug. 6 meeting and the hearing record remains open for the continued date.
