City staff and commissioners discussed VetFest planning at the Aug. 13 meeting and set the first planning meeting for 4 p.m. on Sept. 9 at Surprise City Hall. Staff said ten people from the Mayor's Veterans Roundtable signed up at the last roundtable meeting to help plan, and that the commission will be added to the event quorum list so commissioners may attend without triggering quorum constraints for other agenda items.
Staff stated the commission currently has $10,000 in its budget and noted that last year the commission earmarked $7,500 of those funds for VetFest. Staff also said the city already has a title sponsor committed for the next VetFest.
Commissioners encouraged continued and expanded volunteer participation on planning subcommittees. Several commissioners said they are willing to do outreach to organizations and partners; staff asked commissioners to watch for the email announcing the Sept. 9 planning meeting.
No formal vote was required; staff will coordinate meeting logistics and publish planning materials for attendees.
