The McPherson County Board of Commissioners accepted planning‑board recommendations Aug. 18 on four petitions to designate stretches of county roads as minimum‑maintenance roads.
The planning board had recommended approval for Thirteenth Avenue between Pioneer and Pawnee (vote 5–0) and for Pueblo between Twelfth and Thirteenth Avenue (vote 4–1, no objections at the planning‑board hearing). The board approved the planning‑board recommendations for those two roads; following approval, statute requires posting signage within ten days and coordination with the township trustee.
Two other petitions in New Gottland Township were disapproved by the planning board (Overland Road between Twelfth and Fifteenth Avenue voted 4–1 for disapproval; Twelfth Avenue between Pawnee and Overland was also disapproved). The commissioners accepted the planning‑board recommendations of disapproval for those two roads.
Planning and zoning administrator John Kinsey explained the statutory process: the township trustee is notified, the planning board conducts the hearing and the board of commissioners either accepts or rejects the planning board’s recommendation; if accepted as a minimum‑maintenance road the township must post signage that the road is maintained to a minimum standard.
Commissioners instructed staff to notify affected township trustees and to coordinate on installation of signage and any grading work needed to clarify maintenance responsibilities.
