The Miami County Commission on Aug. 13 authorized the commission chair to sign a $1,795,681.29 change order to expand the 2025 asphalt corrective maintenance project (2407STCO702). Matt Oler, project manager, told the commission the added scope brings the contract total to $5,277,375.64, which he said is still within the project’s $5.3 million capital improvement program budget.
The change order adds a 2-inch mill-and-overlay section from Metcalf to the state line, an additional 1-inch mill and leveling course on 220 Third Street from Woodland to Metcalf, and three additional miles of 2-inch mill and overlay. "There's no ask for additional funds for the project," Oler said, and "this is under your existing budget for this project."
Oler gave a timeline and traffic plan: crews would mobilize Aug. 11 and begin construction the week of Aug. 18. Phase 1 will close a roughly 2-mile segment from Woodland to Renter for about nine days to rehabilitate the base, reclaim and resurface the road, after which crews will move sequentially through mapped phases along the 220 Third corridor. Where work occurs on Metcalf and parts of 220 Third from Metcalf to the state line, operations will be conducted under traffic with flaggers or pilot cars.
Commissioners voted unanimously to approve the change order. The project manager said no transfer of funds or additional appropriation is required because the change is covered within the approved CIP amount.
The project number provided to the commission was 2407STCO702 and the recommended contractor for the additional work was listed as Superior Bowen. The commission did not request additional work beyond the items presented at the Aug. 13 meeting.
