County awards rebar bid for bridge work; KDOT cost‑share application for County Road 1400 not selected

The commission approved awarding the low bid for special bridge rebar to Woods Lumber for $23,695. County public works staff presented five bids and recommended Woods Lumber as the low bidder; commissioners voted to accept the low bid.

Public works staff also reported receipt of a KDOT letter showing the county’s spring cost‑share application for County Road 1400 — a gravel road southeast of Coffeyville that is approaching the riverbank — was not selected. Staff said this was at least the second time the county’s application for that location had been unsuccessful. Brandon, a public works presenter, said the county is “just 1 big flood away” from having to close the road and that guardrails have been installed in the most vulnerable locations.

Commissioners asked whether alternate funding sources exist; staff said they continue to seek options through the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and other programs but have been told funds are limited and to continue reapplying. No additional county funding was approved at this meeting for the CR 1400 project.

The rebar procurement and KDOT update were recorded in the meeting minutes and reflect routine capital project contracting and ongoing grant seeking for a high‑risk rural access route.
