Lee's Summit council members preview Farmers Market Plaza and announce Green Street Market pavilion grand opening Aug. 15

Council members and staff at the July 14 committee meeting previewed the Farmers Market Plaza redevelopment and announced a grand opening for the Green Street Market and Pavilion on Aug. 15.

Council member Mia Pryor said the committee’s first presentation that evening would come from Assistant City Manager Ryan Elam on the Farmers Market Plaza and showed a recent rendering: “That’s really the best way to kinda get a good sense of what this will look like in the near future,” Pryor said. Pryor described downtown Lee’s Summit as a community asset, noting the Farmers Market’s role and the plaza’s location across from City Hall.

Later in the meeting Mayor Baird invited council and the public to the Green Street Market and Pavilion grand opening and the State of the City event on Aug. 15, which will include a ribbon cutting, live music and food trucks. “It’s a big gonna be a big celebration for us. It’s gorgeous, and there’s gonna be a lot of people here,” the mayor said, asking council to attend.

No formal action was recorded on the Farmers Market Plaza at the July 14 committee meeting; the item was introduced as a forthcoming presentation and visuals. The committee noted the project in its roundtable and calendar discussion.
