Council approves $487,000 not-to-exceed acquisition-services contract for Sunset/Powell improvements

The Springdale City Council on Aug. 12 authorized a professional services agreement for acquisition services tied to the Sunset Avenue extension and Powell Street improvements project, a bond-funded work item from the 2023 bond program.
Ben (last name not provided) told the council the project will extend Sunset Avenue from Shipley to Powell and improve Powell Street to just south of Highway 412, and that property acquisitions are necessary to complete the improvements. After a selection process, staff recommended Contract Land Staff as the most qualified firm; staff cited the firm’s prior acquisition work on Jean George North/50 Sixth Street.
The contract presented to council is an hourly, not-to-exceed agreement totaling $487,000. Council voted to authorize execution of the professional services agreement. Staff said the agreement will allow acquisition work to move forward under established procedures and that purchases or eminent-domain actions, if needed, would follow state law and council authorization.
