Planning commission approves softball field and athletic building at Academics Plus High School

The North Little Rock Planning Commission approved a site plan to construct a new softball field and an attached athletic building on the north side of the Academics Plus High School campus after the applicant described the project and commissioners voted in favor.

At the meeting, Josh, a civil engineer with Minton Engineering, said, "This project is to construct a new softball field and, athletic building on the north side of the Academics Plus High School campus." He told the commission the project "is gonna fit in with their existing baseball field and their soccer soccer field," and that the design includes emergency access drives and utilities.

The commission had no follow-up questions from members or the audience. Chairman White called for a voice vote; commissioners said "Aye," and the item was approved.

The approval clears the site plan for the school to proceed to permitting and construction steps with city staff. The project team indicated it would coordinate further with staff on technical and permitting matters.

For next steps, staff will work with the applicant on any outstanding permitting requirements and inspections related to utilities and emergency access. No specific timeline or project budget was stated at the public meeting.
