Board seeks applicants to fill vacant Position 4; applications due Sept. 5, appointment on Sept. 11

Board members announced a process to appoint a replacement for Position 4 after the resignation of Gabriela Bridal Lopez, who moved out of the district. The board said the appointed person will serve until June 2027, when the next election for that seat occurs.
Board staff outlined the timeline: applications and a fillable form in English, Chinese, Russian, Somali, Spanish and Vietnamese will be made available the day after the meeting and will be posted on the district website and distributed via ParentSquare and social media. An informational board workshop for prospective candidates is scheduled for Aug. 28 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. in the district office; applicants can use that session to ask questions about the role and time commitments. Applications are due Sept. 5 and the board plans to hold candidate presentations and appoint a replacement at the Sept. 11 regular meeting; the appointee will be sworn in at that meeting and seated immediately.
Staff noted basic eligibility requirements communicated at the meeting: applicants must have been residents of the David Douglas School District for at least one year and must be registered voters. Staff additionally reminded the board that applicants may not be employed by the district (an employment exclusion was stated during the meeting). Board members indicated the district will provide an application packet and translated materials and encouraged community liaisons and ambassadors to share the opportunity.
No appointment was made at the Aug. 14 meeting; the board set the process and directed staff to publish application materials and to host the Aug. 28 informational workshop.
