Board approves advertisement for vehicle auction to fund truck replacements and authorizes bridge lumber line item

Clayton County supervisors approved a first step toward rotating county trucks by authorizing staff to advertise procurement and bid notices that will allow the county to sell surplus units and prepare to buy replacements.
Samantha Fox, presenting on behalf of road equipment services, told the board trucks slated for the September auction are available now and the auction house estimates a conservative minimum return of $450,000. Road Manager Porter asked for authorization to advertise so procurement timelines would align with the auction schedule in mid‑September.
The board approved the advertising motion and asked staff to prepare bid documents. Road staff will run the public notice in the county’s official publication for two consecutive weeks and return with bids at a later meeting so the board can decide whether to proceed to purchase replacements.
The board also approved adding a new line item for "bridge lumber" (line 150300636 in the road budget) and transferring $24,000 from engineering fees (line 150300555) into that new line. Supervisors said the transfers will allow immediate purchases for bridge work.
