Imperial Beach city manager introduces permanent building official

City Manager Tyler Fultz introduced Frederick Huddleston at the Aug. 6 council meeting as the city’s new building official, telling the council and the public that the hire replaces earlier contract services and provides "stability and great knowledge within the organization."

Huddleston said he has served as a building official in multiple jurisdictions, including work in Northwest Arkansas and the City of Vista in San Diego County, and that he began working with the City of Imperial Beach on June 2. “It’s my pleasure to be here tonight and tell you a little bit about myself,” Huddleston said. “It’s my eighth year as a building official… I’m looking forward to moving forward and serving the people of this city.”

The announcement was informational and required no council vote. City staff described the hire as returning an in‑house official after several years of reliance on contract services; Fultz framed the hire as improving internal continuity for building review and code enforcement functions.

No further personnel actions were taken at the meeting; staff said Huddleston will assume responsibilities previously handled under contract and will work with development‑services staff on permitting and inspections.
