Debbie Neff, executive director of the Humane Society of the White Mountains, told the Pinetop Lakeside Town Council on Wednesday that the shelter had taken in 244 animals year to date and that 67 of those intakes came from the town through June. Neff said 83 animals were brought in by the police department’s animal control year to date.
Nut graf: Neff’s update summarized local intake activity, thanked the town for two decades of support for the shelter’s annual fundraiser, and invited residents to the group’s August event to help adoption and fundraising efforts.
Neff said she became executive director in April after 18 years with the organization and thanked the town for logistical support — loaned tables, banner space and event coordination — for the shelter’s annual Happy Tails fundraiser and barbecue. “Happy Tails this year is on August 23, and it’s from 10 to 4 at the Orchard and Charlie Clark,” Neff said.
Councilors asked clarifying questions about the intake figures, and Neff confirmed that the 67 figure represented the town’s intakes through the second quarter and that the 83 figure reflected year‑to‑date animal control intakes. The presentation was informational; the council did not take formal action. Neff and the council encouraged residents to attend the shelter’s event and consider animal adoption or other support.
