Elko Television District adopts mission updates and recommends county name change to 'Elko County Communications District'

The Elko Television District board voted to adopt updated mission, vision and strategic objectives documents with a minor wording change that gives preference to equipment and software vendors in the U.S. or NATO-allied countries.

Ray proposed replacing the phrase “built by companies in the U.S. or from NATO alliance countries” with “with preference given to companies in the U.S. or from NATO alliance countries” to avoid overly restrictive procurement language. The board adopted the change and approved posting the updated documents to the district website after staff makes the edit.

Name-change recommendation: the board then voted to direct staff to proceed with the process to recommend a name change to the county, proposing the name “Elko County Communications District.” Board members and staff said changing the name will be a multistep process requiring interlocal-agreement language and multiple county hearings before final action by the county commission. The board voted to authorize the chair and staff to draft a letter to the county manager and commission chairman to initiate that process.
