Board members reviewed proposed language for an NDOT amendment and discussed the state’s plan to migrate to P25 radio equipment at several district sites.
Staff described new P25 antennas about 20 feet long and said interop antennas would be smaller (roughly 8–10 feet). District staff explained the state anticipates powering up P25 equipment in winter or early next year, observing the P25 system for a month, then removing older EDACS/EDACS‑era equipment. The VHF combiner at some sites will be left disconnected in place rather than physically removed, staff said.
A board member asked about power and rack requirements; staff said they would have cost numbers available to present and hoped to finalize the contract at a future meeting if the state could provide signatures. The board agreed staff should circulate the contract to NDOT and pursue final signatures; the item was carried to the next agenda pending state response.
