Resident urges city action on long‑vacant, deteriorating house at 806 South Brazos Street

At the council’s non‑agenda citizen comment period, Weatherford resident Marcy Freeman urged the city to address a long‑vacant house at 806 South Brazos Street that she said has deteriorated and poses health and nuisance concerns.

Freeman said the home’s owner died Nov. 3, 2013, and that no one has lived at the address since. She said the yard has not been mowed since the previous year, weeds are taller than she is, and the property attracts mosquitoes, rodents and vermin. She said there is no electricity to the building, shingles are falling off and portions of the eaves are missing. Freeman said she has filed at least two city complaints, the most recent on June 27, and that the online record shows the complaint was closed; she also said a green card was left on the door that was not picked up.

Council asked staff to meet with Freeman after the meeting and gather photos and a timeline of prior communications so the city can determine next steps for abatement or enforcement. No formal council action was taken during the public comment period.
