The Mapleton City Council on Wednesday approved an ordinance to vacate and transfer approximately 61 square feet of city right-of-way at about 215 East Maple Canyon Drive to adjacent property owners. City staff said the transfer is associated with a pending boundary adjustment that will shift a lot line west and remove an obsolete curb cut.
Planner Mr. Conroy told the council the small triangular strip of city-owned land remained once the driveway and curb cut were removed, and the city's recently adopted right-of-way vacation policy supports transferring such parcels to adjacent owners to simplify maintenance. The matter was presented as a public hearing; no members of the public spoke.
Council Member Jones moved to approve the ordinance and the motion was seconded by another council member. The clerk recorded the vote: Carlson, yes; Edgar, yes; Beck, yes; Jones, yes; Garrett, yes. The ordinance passed and the city will execute a transfer consistent with the right-of-way vacation policy, subject to standard legal document recording and any required plats.
Staff did not indicate any outstanding easements or third-party interests affecting the parcel during the hearing. Implementation steps identified were preparing and recording the transfer documents and updating the right-of-way map.
