Staff gave a status update on design work for a new landfill scale house and twin scales intended to speed traffic and reduce queues.
Design details presented included a 60‑foot by 20‑foot scale area sized to accommodate large semitrailers, a FEMA‑rated portion of the scale house for storm protection, and two scales to separate inbound and outbound traffic. Staff said they are working with a design firm (SES) and that the next step is soil sampling to confirm foundation needs before final drawings are completed.
Staff said the two‑scale approach aims to eliminate the current three‑way traffic conflicts at the weigh area, reduce lines that at times extend onto the roadway, and allow separate attendants for inbound and outbound transactions. They noted the new facility will be calibrated annually and that the existing two‑decades‑old scales have been repaired several times but are due for replacement.
No formal action was taken; staff said they will return with soil‑sampling results and refined drawings as the project proceeds.
