Lee's Summit committee recommends dispatch services agreement with Sugar Creek Fire Protection District

The Finance & Budget Committee on Sept. 3 recommended the City Council approve an intergovernmental agreement (IGA) for the City of Lee's Summit to provide dispatching and communications services to the Sugar Creek Fire Protection District.

Deputy Chief Brian Osterman said the district approached Lee's Summit and staff used the district's historical call numbers to develop a fee schedule. "The numbers that they provided us, it's roughly 1,270 calls, a year," Osterman said, adding that the fee schedule will be reassessed in future years using a three‑year average.

Osterman told the committee the agreement, if approved by council, would take effect Sept. 22, with the first partial annual payment due 30 days after that date and automatic renewal on Jan. 1 until either party terminates the agreement.

The committee moved the IGA to full council with a recommendation of approval; the recorded committee vote was unanimous (Chair Shields, Mayor Pro Tem Tim Lopez and Council member Funk). The IGA is intended to formalize dispatch service, the initial fee schedule and an annual reassessment process tied to call volumes.
