County staff to schedule work session on Moyock wastewater compliance and regional service area

Currituck County commissioners asked staff to schedule a work session to update the board on Moyock wastewater compliance, the planned Moyock Regional Wastewater Treatment Plant and the plant’s service area.

In response to commissioner questions, county staff said the plant’s June test results included at least one lab sample that did not meet permit limits (staff indicated an issue with nitrogen on a prior test). County staff said they are in regular communication with the North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) and that DEQ determines formal compliance status. Staff said they were preparing a work session to discuss the Moyock service area, project timelines, when construction and permitting milestones will occur, and the county’s overall wastewater strategy.

Commissioners asked for clarity on the timeline to reach compliance and for details on the plant’s planned service area. Staff said the work session will cover those items and that they will notify the board when a date is set. No board action was taken at the meeting; a future staff‑led work session was described as the next step.
