Currituck County commissioners on Sept. 2 approved a $723,374.90 contract award to Hatchell Concrete for installation of a groundwater lowering system in the Ocean Sands North and Crown Point subdivisions.
County staff said the formal bid opening for the project was held July 24 with no bids received, so the project was rebid and a second opening on Aug. 18 produced a single responsive bid from Hatchell Concrete. Albemarle and Associates, the consulting engineer for the project, recommended awarding the base bid and alternate segment 8 for a total of $723,374.90. The project is part of Phase 1, which was broken into eight segments and includes pump stations; segments 1 and 2 were completed earlier this year.
Commissioners voted to approve the recommendation of award and to delegate authority to the county manager to execute the contract documents. A motion to approve the recommendation, including delegation to the manager, carried with the board announcing “all in favor, aye.”
The contract funds installation of the groundwater-lowering system for segments 3 and 4 (with alternate segment 8) in Ocean Sands North and Crown Point. Staff presented the bid history and the consulting engineer’s recommendation at the meeting; the board did not provide additional conditions at the time of award.
