The Liberty City Council on June 2 approved an agreement with Sergeant Drilling for well cleaning services in an amount not to exceed $75,848. The ordinance passed unanimously and was approved by Mayor Greg Knutson.
City staff confirmed the contract covers work on two wells in the current period. Staff told council members the city operates 11 wells and is revising its well-cleaning procedures; the plan is to standardize the process and increase the number of wells serviced to about three to four per year going forward. Staff explained the work addresses mineral aggregation in the gravel pack around wells that reduces flow; chemical treatment and mechanical cleaning are intended to restore output.
A council member asked whether there were recharge or aquifer-level concerns; staff said they had reviewed drought studies and that aquifer levels were not currently a problem, and that the issue was localized to gravel-pack buildup. The council voted to approve the contract; no amendments were recorded.
