Las Vegas 2D Clark County commissioners on July 16 introduced an ordinance to amend Title 30 to expand the county 27s truck-staging regulations to create a new use category for commercial truck parking lots and set a public hearing for Aug. 6.
Public commenters urged strong enforcement. "People are complaining about semis just parking all over the place and parking in empty lots," said Al Rojas, a neighborhood-watch coordinator in Sunrise Manor. Rojas asked the county to do outreach and to create options for designated, permitted truck parking to reduce illegal curbside and vacant-lot staging.
Nut graf: The ordinance expands the county 27s toolbox for regulating commercial truck parking by adding a new use and requiring special-use permits; commissioners stressed the new rules will still require industrial siting rather than allowing truck yards in commercial locations.
Commissioner Patrick explained the ordinance aims to require staging areas be located in industrial zones and to allow the board to review special-use permits for staging. He said the intent is also to make enforcement more straightforward because counties can then point drivers to lawful locations rather than simply moving them along.
Ending: The board set the ordinance for a public hearing on Aug. 6; staff and commissioners said they will work with DMV and enforcement agencies to identify and permit lawful truck-staging locations and to follow up on complaints about RVs and overnight parking.
